Additional course 28 April to 4 May 2018

In April we are proposing to run a normal Immersion France course alongside the specialist Open University L310 revision course. This may well be the week for you if you prefer the gentler spring weather and Suèvres in full bloom.

Our 23rd year!

At Easter, as usual, we prepared a group of Open University L310 students for their oral and written exams. In the summer, the sun shone on us. Practically all our working lunches were held in the garden and students enjoyed the usual extra-curricular activities of visits, cookery and singing.

Our classrooms this year were in the spacious, former catholic école libre, next to the ancient church of St Christophe. A fascinating book, just published this year,
Suèvres de A à Z, shows our classrooms as they were in their heyday, some forty or fifty village children from 3 to 14, all in their smock overall uniforms, working in the same classroom under one teacher. It’s lovely to feel that we’re still part of a long village tradition of education.

The 14 juillet week offered students a wonderful chance to enter into the heart of village life - the street party with music and home-cooked food, the mayor’s reception and vin dhonneur with the local councillors, a barbecue organised by the association de football, followed by the retraite aux flambeaux and fireworks, plus a bal populaire for those of us able to stand the pace! Our 14 juillet weeks are always memorable (please note that in 2018, the week will run, not from a Friday, but from Wednesday 11 to Tuesday 17 July to accommodate the festivities).

With best wishes

Our Immersion France 6-day residential courses, commencing on Saturdays, offer intensive immersion in the French language, with an emphasis on spoken French, understanding and pronunciation.

Students are accommodated in the village with families well known to us. Evenings around the dinner table, with good food and wine, offer a relaxed atmosphere in which to practice the language and discuss French life and culture

We usually have around 12 students each week, split into two groups according to ability for most of the teaching.

Our tutors come from the Open University, London University or are local French teachers.

We can offer exam preparation with particular help for students facing oral exams.

Specialist group weeks can be arranged.

The price includes all accommodation, meals, teaching, materials, and visits, but not travel to and back from Suèvres.
